Treaty Flagpole at Paihia

.

In 1840, at Paihia – the first Maori leaders signed a treaty that would eventually make New Zealand protected under the British Empire. This flagpole is situated on the exact place where it was first signed, and features both the British and Maori flags, with the New Zealand flag positioned on the top of the pole.
